Heal Your Life with Mirror Work!

We have all judged ourselves at some point or another when we notice our own reflection in the mirror. Sometimes we do it unconsciously, other times we even say it out loud, not realizing that all of those self-talks reflect lack of love for ourselves. Sometimes it’s hard just to say, “Good morning, my dear. You look terrific today!”

I’ve been doing mirror work for a while now, and I have to admit that it felt kind of silly to say to myself, “I love you, Jonice. I really love you!” It took sometime to get used to complimenting myself every time I saw my own reflection in the mirror. But this I can tell you: it gets easier and easier each day.

I just ran across a great article on mirror work that Louise Hay published. This is what in her own words she asks people to do: “…look into your own eyes and say something positive about yourself every time you pass a mirror. These positive statements are affirmations. Are you willing to change your self-talk into positive affirmations?

A lot of what we normally say and think is quite negative and doesn’t create good experiences for us. Do you notice the way that lonely, unhappy, poor, sick people talk? What words do they use? What have they accepted as the truth for themselves? We have to retrain our thinking and speaking into positive patterns if we want to change our lives.

A positive affirmation opens the door. It’s a beginning point on the path to change. In essence, you are saying to your subconscious mind, “I am taking responsibility. I am aware that there is something I can do to change.” When you pay attention to your thoughts, you can begin to eliminate the ones creating experiences you do not want in your life.

Do you always begin a conversation with a complaint? Do you realize that every complaint is an affirmation of something you think you don’t want in your life? Every time you get angry, you’re affirming that you want more anger in your life. Every time you feel like a victim, you’re affirming that you want to continue to feel like a victim. If you feel that Life isn’t giving you what you want in your world, then it’s certain that you will never have the goodies that Life gives to others.

You’re not a bad person for thinking the way you do. You’ve just never learned how to think and talk. People throughout the world are just now beginning to learn that their thoughts create their experiences. Where do you start?

Positive affirmations are solutions that will replace whatever problem you might have. By repeating these affirmations over and over, you’ll be planting new seeds in the fertile soil of your subconscious mind, and they’ll become true for you.

Affirm:

I can feel good about myself!
I can make positive changes in my life!

I can ______ (insert whatever it is you want)

I can do it!

Twice a day, stand in front of a mirror and repeat these positive affirmations ten times. (If you have something more specific you want to work on, you can write your own.) If doubts or fears or negative thoughts come up, just recognize them for what they are—old limiting beliefs that want to stay around. Say to them gently: Out, I no longer need you. And then repeat your positive affirmations again.

That which we constantly affirm becomes true for us.

You can do it!”

Feel It to Heal It!

Life Loves ME!

“Everything happens for a reason”. “There are no coincidences in life”. “We all meet for a purpose”. We all have heard and used these phrases when we feel like there’s nothing else we can do in a given situation. This is what I consider “surrendering to what is”.

So, how do we “surrender to what is”? In my case, positive affirmations help me tremendously to set the tone for my day. “Today is a new day” is one of my favorite of all affirmations, followed by, “Today is a prosperous, friendly, beautiful, creative and productive day for me. That it is filled with joy. That I welcome change and adventure”. These and so many more encouraging, life changing affirmations are inspired by Louise Hay, who I consider to be one of  my favorite teachers that has helped me heal emotionally, physically and spiritually. I have learned, and still am learning, to release, relax, let go and surrender by thinking, saying, visualizing, and feeling positive, inspiring, beautiful affirmations…or prayers, if you will.

For me, it is no accident or coincidence that the book, “A Return to Love” fell of the shelf a couple of days ago, so to speak,  and the section “surrender” called my most needed attention. What I learned from this section is that there is a beautiful intelligence or force so much bigger than us that lovingly and unconditionally takes care of our challenges, whatever they are…and helps us to (be willing to) forgive.

I am convinced that this book showed up in my life at the right time. It is so good that I’ve pretty much highlighted every other paragraph in the first 60 pages so far! It is so good and true to me, that here’s one of my new daily affirmations from now on: “Dear God, my desire, my priority is inner peace. I want the experience of love. I don’t know what would bring that to me. I leave the results of this situation in your hands. I trust your will. May your will be done. Amen”.

Just like our body so intelligently breathes our lungs and digests our food without the need of our control, so does this wonderful intelligence that is within us carry our concerns, sorrows, needs, wants, desires. All we need to do is trust our divine wisdom…or have “faith”, if you will.

To me, positive affirmations are my healing prayers; I think them, say them out loud, visualize them in my mind’s eyes, and feel them in my core as it they are already happening. And when they happen and I feel them, healing begins!

So, as the affirmation set for this month suggests, let us all notice and experience the everyday blessings that flow through us naturally and effortlessly. 🙂

I feel so that I heal! Life Loves Me! And so it is!

Another favorite affirmation of mine…Can you tell?! 🙂

“I can do all things through prayer and coffee”.
